Introduction

This is test #3 I have done with the R9s, and the emphasis here has been again directed mainly towards ammunition evaluation through this gun.
Much was covered in the initial and original range test, and then later a second test was carried out. Following that second session I also made up a page consolidating all ammo test figures to date. This has now been updated and re-arranged a bit to keep manufacturer items together - plus identifying which figures were from which test.

The prime intention was to explore further variants of available ammo, which included - Winchester Ranger 147's (courtesy of Dan O'Brien), Winchester Silvertip 115's (courtesy of Brian Dinse), and others I had obtained myself for the purpose, which were - Winchester White Box 115 grain JHP's, Winchester White Box 147 grain JHP's and CCI Blazer 115 JHP's. aluminum case variety. I had some 124 grain Gold Dots spare so threw in another test run on those, as much as anything to re-confirm my previous good results with same.

The program was again broken down into three main sections.

First a shooting comparison on simple targets drawn up and printed, comprising half letter paper with a 3" center orange sticker, quite basic. These tend to tear rather too readily but otherwise work fine. Do bear in mind that this shooter is not olympic class! I have some problem with iron sights due to aging eyes and will freely admit, I find small guns quite difficult. The R9s is tho the best small pistol I have yet to use.

During testing chrono data was again taken at the same time as putting rounds on the paper, this being the second main aspect. I elected to use just one distance for targets .... simplified to approx 15 feet, or a little over... this meant I had enough ammo of all types to use ten shot strings for each example ... thus giving a bigger sample for results.

The gun was used once more from a simple sandbag rest on a bench - and I wore fingerless biking gloves to assist comfort and grip.

Finally, a wet paper pack was again used to try and establish some form of expansion comparison. I now feel this is still a useful approximation but due to possible inconsistencies within the pack structure, perhaps less reliable than really required .... more of which later.

Basic set-up with target and chrono

The set up used is shown in the pic above ....... much as previous. Very simple, bench and sandbags, the chrono at approx 6 feet distance and target at appropriate position. ''ground skips'' are not a problem here - I just have to fill in the hole later!!!.

Move on now to the Targets section .........
