Federal - Hi-Shock 115 grn and
Hydra-Shok 135 & 147 grn
The Hi-Shock (C9BP) was the supplied ammo and so tested
at all distances. Thus three samples of five.
With limited availabiliy of the Hydra-Shok, I only got
one string of five for 135 grain, and two strings of
five for 147. I will tho add an extra five string for
each from first test data (minus SD result at that time)
String velocities are rounded up or down to get rid
of decimal point. Muzzle Energy (ME) is based on the
average velocity (Av Vel)

Rather a large spread
..... and strange how the third series saw no velocity
over 1000 fps! Let's again combine figures to get a
feel for the fifteen string.
Low vel overall - 977 fps
Hi vel overall - 1039 fps
Average (of averages) - 1003 fps
Max spread - 62 fps.
Average ME - 257 ft lbs.
Spread is not that good and in particular, the energy
figures are not that high. |
Next is the 147 Hydra-Shok
.. the first two series done fresh, the third set of
figures taken from test #1.

Surprising here how
low the power factor has dropped, even when compared
with the 115 grain above. Combining figures for the
string of fifteen we get ....
Low vel overall - 799 fps
Hi vel overall - 855 fps
Average (of averages) - 824 fps
Max spread - 56 fps.
Average ME - 222 ft lbs.
Does not shout out as a choice! |
Finally is the 135
Hydra-Shok .. only one string of five recorded during
this last test but will again add a five string data
set from the first R9 test day (no SD).

Power factor here
better than the 147 grain... Combining figures for the
string of ten here we get ....
Low vel overall - 892 fps
Hi vel overall - 925 fps
Average (of averages) - 911 fps
Max spread - 33 fps.
Average ME - 249 ft lbs.
Spread also better than the 147 grain. |
This
ammo does not show up too well overall .... regarding
speeds, energy etc. One could regard it perhaps as
adequate but not remarkable.
You may next like to look at Chrono
