In the
early days of R9 ownership, it became
clear that for many, the process of takedown
and reassembly was fiddly and difficult.
This is mainly because to keep the gun's
profile clean and slim there is no provision
for a slide lock.
This means, that in order to remove or
replace the main pin (across frame below
ejection port), some means has to be found
to hold the slide back at exactly the
right position. It is possible to achieve
by a strong hand grip but far easier if
there is something to insert of the right
size.
I discovered that a chopstick was ideal
for my purposes but RJ went one better
and came up with a wedge-shaped piece
of soft aluminum and later a soft brass
option - 3" long. This is inserted
to the required level to hold slide back
with pin aligned and was very popular.
The pictures below give some idea of what
it is like. At the last count the aluminum
version was $12 shipped, the brass $18
shipped.
